OMG – A Teenager in UK Suffered Hearing and Sight Loss Due to Junk Food!

It is known to all that eating junk food is good for no one. As per the latest news, a teenager is alleged to be the first in the UK to go deaf and blind due to his junk food diet.

The British boy, who has stayed anonymous, had such a diet that he suffered from a disorder typically only seen in malnourished third world children. The kid is believed to be the first case of its kind in the UK.

The 17 year-old had only eaten chips, Pringles, sausages, processed ham and white bread since primary school, telling doctors he did not like the “texture” of fruit and vegetables.

Dr Denize Atan, who works for the University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust and wrote about the boy’s case, said: “He had a daily portion of fries from the local fish and chip shop and snacked on Pringles, white bread, processed ham slices and sausage.”

The appalling lack of vitamins dented his optic nerve, which links the eye to the brain. He was found to have a condition called nutritional optic neuropathy – usually only seen countries where access to food is restricted.

The family of the teen agreed for the case to be stated in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine to raise cognizance of ARFID and the importance of nutrition for good eye and ear health.
