As 2020 nears its end, people are reflecting on what a waste it has been. It is being looked at as a year that never was! This was a strange year for sure, it has completely changed the way we live our lives. It has changed the way we go from day to day and how we interact with people around us. For the first time in our lives, our freedom was taken away from us and we were asked to stay cooped up in our homes. What’s more, this did not happen in our country alone, this happened all over the world!

This is why, ‘Lockdown’ has been named as the word of the year by Collins dictionary. The dictionary defines this word as “the imposition of stringent restrictions on travel, social interaction, and access to public spaces.”

In 2019, this word was used 4000 times in recorded materials. But in one year’s time its usage grew manifold. The word lockdown was used quarter of a million times in 2020! This outstanding growth in usage is why lockdown is the word of this year! 2020 will be remembered forever inhistory for many reasons, but the lockdown due to pandemic will remain the most memorable memory!
