With all that has been going on around us, it is possible you may have forgotten all about your taxes! If you have to file belated or revised returns for assessment year 2019-20, the deadline set for you was March 31 2021. The government has extended this date to help out people who are already suffering under the deadly COVID wave.

Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) received requests from different stakeholders that the compliance requirements should be relaxed considering current circumstances. Taking cognizance of these requests, the CBDT has extended last date for filing belated or revised returns for 2019-20 till May 31 2021. The last date for filing objections and appeals to Dispute Resolution Panel has also been extended till May 31.

Because of the pandemic restrictions and scare, people are unable to go to their banks for statements or see their accountants for help with their returns. In this scenario, it is possible that the government may further extend this deadline if the COVID situation does not improve by mid-May.
