It is indeed quite shameful that India has NEVER won a gold at any world track event. Especially so considering that we have the second largest population in the world! Hima Das changed this and created history in just 51.46 seconds! Hima Das, the 18 year old from Assam, has become a real life hero for India.
Hima Das became the first Indian to win a Gold at the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships being held at Tampere, Finland. Hima had already become a favorite during the pre-qualifier rounds. The world watched with bated breath as Hima ran in those 51.46 seconds, creating history with every step.
Congratulating Hima, PM Modi tweeted a highlight video of her race and those glorius moments when Hima proudly sang her National Anthem on the podium after her win. He tweeted “Unforgettable moments from @HimaDas8’s victory. Seeing her passionately search for the Tricolour immediately after winning and getting emotional while singing the National Anthem touched me deeply. I was extremely moved.
Which Indian won’t have tears of joy seeing this!”
We completely agree. Congratulations Hima, you have brought so much glory and pride to India!
