Shweta was fired by her boss 3 weeks ago. The last 3 weeks have changed her completely. From a bubbly cheerful person, Shweta has turned into someone who’s down and out. She sleeps all day and stays awake all night. She meets nobody and remains generally depressed with life. Is this how she should deal with things?

If you or anyone you know has been fired from work, this is not the right way to deal with the situation. The correct way is to never let go of your grip on life and to deal with this with your chin up. Here’s how:

1. Do not get lazy and sleep all day. In fact, while you are out of a job, you should still stick with your regular routine of waking up, getting dressed etc. When it’s time to go to work, turn on your laptop and start looking for your next job!

2. Do not give in to the temptation to binge on your favorite foods. Binge eating is associated with having too much free time and also with depression. Just don’t allow yourself to give in!

3. Use your time to do things you have not had time to do, like visiting your parents or meeting up with old friends. Use your time to catch up with other things that you have left behind.

4. Make a budget for yourself and stick to it till your find a new job. Cut out all the expenses that can possibly be avoided.

5. Make a list of all the people who can help you in getting a new job. Approach a few daily.

6.  Try to remain positive, and let go of your resentment.
