Ganga is not simply a symbol of a religion. It is a sign of holiness, culture and geography and most prominently it is one of the most powerful instruments of our economy. (NMCG) was registered as a society on 12th August 2011 under the Societies Registration Act 1860.It acted as execution body of National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA) which was constituted under the provisions of the Environment (Protection) Act and Clean Ganga mission came into existence.

In order to make the mission “Clean Ganga” successful it is our duty that we make some extra effort to make sure that the Ganges of the river remains clean with all the activities that people perform on a daily basis on it. Ganga is a symbol of purity and we have to make sure that it remains the same in the coming years.

Below steps can help to clean the Ganga on a fast track and contribute to its betterment:

Transparency and Awareness: First start publishing the pollution numbers at each city level on daily basis on dedicated a website. Each city will know how much they are polluting the river. As an individual, you can counter your area in the starting step.

Target hazardous waste first: There are two type of waste: 1) chemical/plastic: waste produced by industry/people 2) bio waste produced by human /animals. We should make an attempt to make sure that the river is not getting polluted because of any industrial waste as they can not only damage the water but can kill water living bodies. There should be a strict legal framework to penalize industry/people polluting the river.

Engage local public with economic benefits: Encourage river rafting/tourism related activities which in turn will create jobs and more public interest for cleanliness drive.

So, do you want to contribute to saving our mother Ganga?
