Bhaichung Jhalak Dikhla Gaya!

Bahichung Bhutia needs no introduction. He’s one of the few men who have successfully displayed a winning streak in every field, from the football ground to the dancing stage.

Bahichung, the young footballer and celebrity contestant on the dance show Jhalak Dikhla Ja – Season 3, was the last person people expected to win. He was identified as a “weak candidate” right in the beginning of the show. From “stiff” to “expressionless” to “serious”, Bhaichung got an earful every time he danced in the first few weeks. He came across as someone who could just not let go while dancing.

But choreographer Sonia took up the challenge and came out with more and more convincing & powerful performances each week. Bhaichung got better consistently, and even started smiling occasionally. There’s no doubt that sports fans all over the country worked hard to keep him in the competition. But there’s no denying that Bhaichung totally deserved it as well. His football team Mohun Bagan alleged that Bhaichung was missing football practice in favor of dancing sessions. Bhai was astounded at this insinuation and decided to call it quits with the sporting club.

In the final, ”Bhaichung & Sonia” faced “Karan & Nicole” and “Gauhar & Himanshu”. Interestingly, Gauhar Khan made it to the finals in spite of being rejected by the public again and again. Buttering up the judges does help!

There are reports of huge canvassing and SMS frenzy in Bhaichung’s home state Sikkim. Nearby states of the North East and Bengal also voted furiously to propel Bhaichung towards the prize money and fame. The finale episode yesterday evening saw many celebrity guests performing on the stage including Malaika Arora Khan, Mallika Sherawat, Mona Singh and Prachi Desai. Interestingly, the three judges Saroj Khan, Juhi Chawla and Vaibhavi Merchant favored Gauhar Khan right from the beginning. From creating uneccesary gaps in marks to throwing out competitors in dance off, the judges tried every trick in the book to hand the show to their favorite Gauhar. Little surprise then, that all 3 looked glum after reading the name of the winner!

In another dance show on Zee TV, “Dance India Dance”, Salman Khan won the show. Certainly, the level of dance in this show is far better than the celebrity dance show on Sony. All the finalists on “Dance India Dance” are accomplished dancers, who have hopefully just started their career in the industry.
