Did you know that even losing 30 minutes of your sleep can lead to weight gain?
Most people would argue that since we burn more calories awake, as compared to when asleep, it can be inferred that the less we sleep, slimmer we should be! But unfortunately it is not that simple. It is true that you burn more calories when awake, but that is only because we do certain activities like walking around, doing chores etc when we are awake. But if you just lie awake in your bed, watching reruns of your favorite TV shows, and possibly munching on something, you are not burning any calories!
Recent research shows that a loss of even 30 minutes of sleep messes with your metabolsim and affects your body.
“While previous studies have shown that short sleep duration is associated with obesity and diabetes, we found that as little as 30 minutes a day sleep debt can have significant effects on obesity and insulin resistance at follow up,” said lead study author Professor Shahrad Taheri, professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar.
So turn off the telly and get your beauty sleep!
