As the government has announced vaccines for everyone over age 18 from May 1, large number of people will be getting their life saving shots every day. This is very important because this wave of Coronavirus is affecting the young as much as it is targeting the old. Hospitals are filled with young people who are struggling to breathe. So vaccination for all will prove to be a big step in the fight against COVID.
One thing you must remember is that getting your shot does not give you complete protection. In fact it gives you ZERO protection for the first 2 weeks. Your body builds some immunity between 2-3 weeks after getting the first shot. You are still not completely immune. You will achieve the full benefit of vaccine generated immunity 3-4 weeks after you get your second shot. Don’t forget to space the two shots by 6-8 weeks for maximum effect.
It is being reported that 1 in every 4 people is experiencing mild symptoms after getting the COVID vaccine. What are these symptoms? These are symptoms of COVID itself, but in a minor degree. So you may find yourself developing a low grade fever. Your body may experience complete lack of energy, loss of appetite and may even experience chills. Headache is also reported as one of the symptoms after getting the vaccine. Usually these symptoms will last for 1-2 days only. If your symptoms are severe, last longer or if you have difficulty breathing, you must seek medical attention. It is possible you may have contracted COVID around the same time as when you got the vaccine!
Take care, stay safe and get the vaccine.
