With the rising population, specialists expect the number of women with the bone-thinning disease osteoporosis to increase. Osteoporosis is a grave issue to women’s health — worldwide one in three women over the age of 50 will suffer a broken bone due to osteoporosis.

Once after menopause, women’s risk for osteoporosis increases as bone loss accelerates and bones weaken. Well, we have jotted few pointers that will help to prevent Osteoporosis in women.

>Exercise: Women should ideally get 30 to 40 minutes of physical activity, three to four times each week. This bustle should include a combination of confrontation training and weight-bearing exercise.

>Eat a bone-healthy diet: Women should eat food items that are rich in dietary calcium and protein, along with plenty of fruits and vegetables. Getting sufficient vitamin D through sunlight or a supplement is also important to prevent osteoporosis.

>Kick bad habits: To guard bone health, one has to stop smoking. Drinking heavily can also have an adverse effect on bone health. Women who are underweight are at higher risk for osteoporosis than those who are a normal weight. So, it is important that collectively women should avoid drinking and smoking to guard themselves from osteoporosis.

>Avoid the “female athlete triad”: Women who exercise and train penetratingly can have three issues — thin bones, lack of a menstrual cycle, and eating disorders. Athletes who have difficulties with their periods have lower estrogen levels. This often leads to lower bone mass. So, make sure to keep a regular tap on your exercise schedule to maintain healthy bone density.
