One term that is gaining popularity these days is Intermittent Fasting. What does it mean and how can you use it as a tool for weight loss? Intermittent fasting is the way of life where a person does not eat anything for a duration of time.
There are two ways of using intermittent fasting for losing weight. One way is to restrict the “eating” duration every day. For example, you can eat food only from 8 am to 4 pm. The duration of time between 4 pm and 8 am next day is the “fasting” phase. The other way to use intermittent fasting is to have “fasting” days every week. So if you wish to try this method, you would eat nothing on 2 days every week eg Monday and Thursday. People who have tried these two methods of weight loss have experienced various benefits and weight loss is a major benefit of intermittent fasting.
One mistake that most people make when using intermittent fasting is not drinking enough water. If you normally drink 8 glasses of water a day, you need at least 12 glasses on your fasting days. Similarly, you need to consume more than normal water in your fasting duration of a day. This is because our fluid consumption is not just from water. Most of our food also gives us fluids. Almost all vegetables, fruit and salad contain large amounts of water. When you don’t eat, you are also not getting this fluid content of your food. This is why you may experience loss of energy and headaches caused due to dehydration.
So if you are trying intermittent fasting for weight loss, don’t forget to keep yourself well hydrated!
