A few decades ago you either had a high cholestrol level, or you didn’t. That was a simple time. Today, there are various measures for your cholestrol level. There’s a good cholestrol level, a bad one, some ratios, and the triglycerides. A lot of people complain that they are successfully able to reduce their total cholestrol but find the Triglycerides to be a stubborn enemy. How can one change that?

Triglycerides are the end product made from fats. These are in your blood stream and may deposit anywhere in your body when not used up. What makes Triglycerides notorious is that a high level often indicates higher risk for heart attacks and strokes.

How to Reduce Triglycerides?

Simple lifestyle changes can make a big difference. Medication is required only in extreme cases of very high levels.

1. Try to reduce your weight. Even a 10% reduction in body weight helps in lowering Triglycerides.

2. Reduce your consumption of unhealthy fats. This means that red meat and dairy fats need to be cut out from the diet along with trans fats found in processed foot items.

3. Increase your intake of Omega 3 acids. Omega 3 is found in fish. Vegetarians can get their intake by popping supplements.

4. Reduce your consumption of refined foods. White rice, pasta, white flour, sugar etc are all bad for you when it comes to Triglycerides.

5. Limit your consumption of alcohol. In extreme cases, it is advisable to totally give up alcohol.
