It is a well known fact that fad diets do not work. When you start depriving your body of the food it needs and craves, you may lose a few kilos initially but not for long! Very soon you reach a weight loss plateau and nothing works after that. This messes up your relationship with food and eating disorders are not far from here. So if you want to enjoy good food, good health and a good life, follow intuitive eating.

What is intuitive eating? Intuitive eating means listening to your body and enjoying a healthy relationship with food. The first step towards intuitive eating involves listening to your body and understanding the hunger signals. If you keep your body well fed and nourished, you will not get into the habit of mindless snacking or overeating. So the idea is to eat before you reach the pinnacle of hunger.

Intuitive eating also discards any pre-conceived ideas you may have regarding what to eat and when. There is no rule about when you should eat. When you eat intuitively, it means you eat only when you realize you are hungry. Also, no foods are restricted. You should enjoy what you want to. But again, the idea is to feed the hunger and never eat more than required and never to eat at a time when you are not hungry. Learn to identify your satisfaction just like you identify your hunger.

Another principle is to accept and honor your body. Refuse to fall for a size zero mentality. So say no to mindless cardio or repetitive strength training. But keep moving and learn to enjoy moving your body. Realize the difference it makes to improvement of your health and moods. Intuitive eating is not meant for losing weight. Some people may lose weight with this practice, and some may not. But it is a tool to improve your life, and enjoy!
