After a steady decline in COVID cases all over the country for over 2 months, India is once again bogged down by an increase in number of cases. COVID is on the rise once again in some states of the country. The biggest concern is Maharashtra which has the highest increase in number of daily cases.

On Wednesday, there were 1539 new cases in Mumbai alone, and this is the highest number in over 5 months. As the situation becomes worrisome, BMC has said that another lockdown is not ruled out. We have already seen night curfews in many areas of Maharashtra but a complete lockdown in the state is also on the cards if the number of new cases continue to rise. An interesting observation in Mumbai points out that 90% of new cases are emerging from residential buildings. While BMC has been focused on slums, only 10% of new cases are coming from the slums now. BMC needs to change its strategy and approach.
