Rather than taking up the first offer that came his way after he won appreciation for his performance in his big screen debut ‘Bollywood Diaries’ (2016), actor Salim Diwan chose to wait for the right project. However, little did he know that he would have to wait for almost six years to get back to doing what he does best – acting. But he isn’t complaining.
In fact, he believes that the wait has been worth, as he is all set to return with a film that piqued his interest.
He will feature in ‘Aliya Basu Gayab Hai’. Salim shares, “My character in the film is quite promising. It’s multilayered, interesting and intriguing. Many actors have played such a character, but this one stands out for his unconventional treatment of situations. I am not at liberty to divulge much about it since it is a thriller. However, I can assure you that it's a hard-hitting role.”
So, what took him five years to return to the screen?
He replies, “A lot of offers came my way from different platforms after ‘Bollywood Diaries’. Unfortunately, some couldn’t work out and I wasn’t convinced about my characters in other projects. I like to play characters that connect with the audience and are also crucial to the plot. So, waiting for a good role is no problem for me at all!” Talking about his journey so far, he says, “I’ve been fortunate that my performance in my first film was appreciated by everyone. I knew that I had to keep the momentum going and wanted to take up projects, which would challenge me to push my limits. ‘Aliya Basu Gayab Hai’ is just that. It gives me an opportunity to push the envelope as an artiste. I do not want to focus on the number of projects, but on the quality, which allows me to grow as an actor. However, I have made a resolution that I would take up more work in 2021. I am looking forward to a year of great opportunities.”
