Tabu: Playing dark characters has become a thing now for female actors
Tabu is known for her unconventional and dark roles. She is a phenomenal actress, and over the years, she has played characters that have thrilled the audience.
From Maachis (1996) to Haider (2014) to AndhaDhun (2018), Tabu has only shown how dark her characters can get and to what a greater extent she can leave the audience impressed with her performances. For her last film AndhaDhun, she received a lot of praises from the audience and the critics. The film also starred Ayushmann Khurrana and Radhika Apte.
Tabu's character of Simi wasn't a simple woman. She would do anything to save herself from a tough situation. No one would have an idea of her next move, so it's not easy to learn Simi.
The way Tabu portrayed Simi is applaudable. In an interview with Hindustan Times, the actress talked about playing dark characters and how today's actresses now take such roles.
Tabu said that she never understood why she should play a good, simple girl. She stated that she loves doing these good characters also, but playing someone with grey shares is nothing wrong.
The Drishyam actress added, "Playing dark characters has become a thing now for female actors. When I was doing it, no one else was. For me, I have always understood the grey area very well. Also, it was not that I was trying to break the glass ceiling. Ye sab bas hota gaya and female characters ke liye base banta gaya."
She added that she never took such dark roles with the intent of making a statement or to create any impact.
The decision of taking up such grey characters came from her heart and instinct, said the actor. Which is your favourite Tabu film? Let us know in the comments section below.
