Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer Kabir Singh became one of the most controversial films of the year. The film may have done wonders at the box-office, it was criticised for its misogynistic plot. While the film was based on a possessive lover and his violent behaviour, the film has already crossed Rs 300 crore mark at the box-office.
As we are inching closer to the year end, Bollywood actresses like Alia Bhatt, Yami Gautam, Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar came together for Round Table conference.
The promo of the show was put by Rajeev Masand’s on his social media, as seen in the promo of Round Table conference, when the actresses were asked about the male-centric films of Bollywood, Taapsee reacted on the same and said that after watching Vijay Deverakonda starrer Arjun Reddy she decided to not watch Kabir Singh. Yesterday, Taapse Pannu and Vikrant Massey announced their next together Haseena Dilruba.
In an early conversation with Mumbai Mirror, when Taapsee was asked about Kabir Singh, she had said, “Kabir Singh and Arjun Reddy are not the only films glorifying misogyny, there are several others too but not to this extent.
That is one of the reasons why I do the kind of films I do, there should be a counter narrative too.” She had further compared Kabir Singh with Manmarziyaan and had said, “She was probably not a female Kabir Singh, but Manmarziyaan’s Rumi Bagga was a flawed character too, and ended up losing her love and getting divorced. The same misogynist people who didn’t see a problem with Kabir, booed Rumi. We aren’t oblivious to the double standards of our society.”
