Renowned Indian athlete PT Usha might have retired from the field two decades ago, but she has stayed connected to the sport through a training school. Pre-lockdown, she was working with several athletes, locally and nationally, and prepping them for international competitions. While she is using her time shaping the athletes of the future.
Bollywood has been planning a biopic on her life. And, had everything gone as planned, the Hindi-English bilingual would have been ready to go on floors.
Usha said, “My biopic would have been announced by now. We were that close to starting off, but it will have to wait for a bit. I am hoping that it will roll out towards the end of the year. Of course, by then, if the competitions begin, I will have less time on hand, but I will try and train the actress who will be playing me.” When asked who would be the best to portray her on screen, Usha refrained from commenting. However, over the past few years, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Katrina Kaif’s names have come up in various reports, though there have been no confirmations.
Meanwhile, even as our country is coming out of the lockdown, which lasted for over two months, several sportspersons had to adapt to training indoors.
“Sportspersons have to keep themselves in high spirits and inspire others around them. It’s their responsibility. I’ve always trained young athletes to be focussed. Right now, they have to ensure that their interest in their sport doesn’t dwindle. It’s not been easy, but we have to tell ourselves that we will be back on the field, soon,” she says.
