It was not too long ago that veteran actor and social activist Shabana Azmi raised questions over the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) sending back the application for the certification of Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed 'Padmavati'.

Recently, Azmi slammed Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani for her silence on the raging controversy surrounding 'Padmavati' and the threats issued to Deepika and Bhansali.

She tweeted, "Smriti Irani is preparing IFFI dats possible only bcoz the Indian Film Industry brings such acclaim to it but keeps quiet about 'Padmavati'!" She also went ahead and termed it as a "cultural annihilation".

Azmi concluded by urging the "entire film industry" to "boycott" International Film Festival of India (IFFI) which commences on November 20, 2017. "The entire film industry should boycott IFFI in protest against the threats to @deepikapadukone SLB and #Padmavati", she tweeted.
