Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub opens up on the impact of Deepika Padukone’s presence at JNU during students' protest
Early this month, Deepika Padukone shocked all of Bollywood when she stood in solidarity with the students of JNU.
The actress won both praise and criticism for taking a stand with the students who were reportedly attacked by masked goons during a peaceful protest. Twitter was split with those coming out in support of the actress and others calling for a “boycott” of her film Chhapaak.
Actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, who has been at the forefront of the anti-CAA and NRC protests, not only lauded Deepika for taking a stand, but also shared his thoughts on the impact of her presence.
According to a report, the actor said that Deepika’s mere presence at the students’ protest prompted the “privileged people” who were ignoring the issue to sit up and take note.
He also went on to share that he didn’t believe that her show of support affected the box office business of her film ‘Chhapaak’, citing that maybe the makers weren’t after big numbers.
Sharing his thoughts on the silence of Bollywood biggies on the CAA, he said that not taking a stand shows that one is “privileged”. However, he admitted that everyone had the right to “enjoy that privilege.”
