Mumbai-based model Preeti Jain, who had filed a rape case against Madhur Bhandarkar in 2004, has now been convicted on charges of criminal conspiracy to kill the filmmaker.
A source suggests, the Mumbai civil and sessions court has convicted Jain and awarded three years of imprisonment to for plotting to kill the filmmaker.
In a narrative straight out of an Abbas-Mustan thriller, Jain had paid a sum of Rs 75,000 to infamous Mumbai don Arun Gawli's associate Naresh Pardeshi and had directed him to execute the filmmaker. This was in September 2005, a year after she filed rape charges against Bhandarkar in July 2004.
However, the same report states that since the execution failed to take place, Jain demanded her money back from Pardeshi.
When Gawli got aware of her demands, he instructed his lawyer to file a police complaint against her at the Agripada police station. The police investigated the matter and went on to arrest her after a weeklong probe. They haven’t only arrested Jain while she was on her way to the Versova police station but also detained Pardeshi. They also arrested his friend Shivram Das who helped in arranging the weapons and shooters.
While the initial trial began in a fast-track court in Sewree, the court was later shut and the case was eventually transferred to the sessions court.
Found guilty of conspiracy, aiding and abetting crime, Jain was pronounced guilty and awarded with a three year imprisonment for her crime. An another report suggests that back in 2004, Jain had accused Bhandarkar of casting couch. She had alleged that the filmmaker asked her for sexual favours in lieu of casting her in a film but failed to live up to his promise. Jain had even produced SMS texts from Bhandarkar, asking for sexual favours, before the police as an evidence in the favour of her claim.
