The formal announcement came in sometime back that the veteran actor will be indeed be felicitated by the prestigious award.
Veteran actor Manoj Kumar will be Receiving 47th Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2015
Legendary actor and director Manoj Kumar is to be conferred the 47th Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2015. MIB India tweeted on Friday: ‘Veteran film actor Shri Manoj Kumar to be conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2015’.
Manoj Kumar, who has best known for his patriotic films Purab Aur Paschim, Upkar and Kranti, to receive Dadasaheb Phalke award for his contribution to the film industry.
The actor became the 47th recipient of the award, the highest recognition in Indian cinema, which consists of a golden lotus, a cash prize of Rs 10 lakhs and a shawl.
He had also won the National Award for Upkaar and was honored with the Padma Shri in 1992.
Manoj Kumar started his career as a romantic hero following his debut in 1960 with Kaanch Ki Gudia but later shifted focus to acting and directing films with patriotic themes so much so that fans started calling him ‘Bharat Kumar’.
The award is honoured by the Government of India for his outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema.
Manoj Kumar is remembered for his films Hariyali Aur Raasta, Woh Kaun Thi, Himalaya Ki God Mein, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, and Kranti. He is known for acting in and directing films with patriotic themes.
Last year, the Dadasaheb Phalke award was given to Shashi Kapoor. This year it will go for Manoj Kumar
Madhur Bhandarkar and IFTDA Chief Ashoke Pandit broke the news to the 78-year-old actor-filmmaker at his residence.
