Kalank: Not Varun Dhawan-Alia Bhatt but Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol were Karan Johar’s first choice?
Karan Johar's production venture Kalank is in the news since its inception and the reason behind it is the huge ensemble star cast.
The film stars actors like Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit. Needless to say, the excitement has hit the roof after the character posters and the unveiling of the teaser of the Abhishek Varman directorial took place.
It was surreal, to say the least. Larger-than-life landscapes and a compelling background were few of the many things that left an impact and no points for guessing - we are waiting to see more from where that came.
Having said that, the Kalank of today looks vastly different than what took birth in the mind of Karan Johar. How? Well, for starters instead of Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt the original star cast had Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol as Zafar and Roop. Not just them, even Ajay Devgn and Rani Mukerji were being considered for Aditya and Sonakshi's roles. KJo had mentioned the same in his book An Unsuitable Boy, he wrote, "When my father was alive, I was writing a love story set in pre-partition times. But the canvas was too large, it was supposed to have Shah Rukh, Ajay, Rani and Kajol. It was about homes, and it had a Hindu-Muslim angle. It was a very strong subject, and would be called Kalank."
Bankrolled by Dharma Productions, Kalank is set to release on April 17, 2019.
Earlier, while sharing a beautiful creative, Karan had penned an emotional let go and captioned it as, "A film that was born in my heart and mind 15 years ago....a film I passionately believe in...the last film my father worked on before he left us....it was his dream to see this film come through....I couldn’t fulfil his dream then....my spirit was broken....but today his wish has found a relationship with celluloid....the story of turbulent relationships and eternal love has found a voice....the film has been woven, nurtured and visualised by ABHISHEK VARMAN....and the film Is KALANK! Set in the 40’s but it’s heart lives on.....TOMORROW the journey begins.....am excited ...anxious and emotional about this one...I do hope you join us on our path to undying love.....#KALANK."
