Delhi Daredevils won by 2 wkts, Iyer brilliance helps DD prevail intense finish
DD chased down 195 with Amit Mishra hit the winning runs in the final over
In the previous clash between the two teams this season, two of India's brightest young batting prospects - Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant - took the game away from Gujarat Lions with a brilliant show.
Shreyas Iyer, the other member of Delhi's young brigade missed out in that game. But today when he walked in at 15/2, both of Delhi's heroes from the previous clash had fallen. But the baton had been passed on. It was Iyer's turn to showcase his skills and he left no stone unturned in proceeding to impress onlookers with a single-handed, match-winning 96.
Shreyas Iyer, who was the man of the Match, said I would have been more happy if I had finished off the game. Nonetheless, a great knock. I wasn't thinking about my 100.
I just wanted to get my team through. We had lost early wickets, I thought I'll keep knocking singles and doubles. It worked out. 100 doesn't really matter. Winning the match for the team is more important. At the start of the innings, I was just trying to time the ball. I was pushing them in the gap and the outfield was really quick. Getting boundaries more than sixes is an achievement too. Two more matches left, hopefully I will see to it that I get two more man of the matches.
