The teacher and Nawaz, one of his favorite students
Recalling their first meeting in 1996, the actor informed that during a visit to the National School of Drama, Teplyakov had picked Nawaz, then a third-year student in a batch of 20, to play Michael Borkin in Ivanov. From Teplyakov, Nawaz learnt how to step away from the self to become the character and speak his lines with conviction, to perform like one is living the role. The teacher and Nawaz, one of his favourite students, kept in touch through letters even after Teplyakov returned to Russia.
