We have all seen the ad where this gal is all dressed up in this hot black number for a date, when her friend points to the white flakes on her dress. The friend then suggests this shampoo which will relieve the flakes and take care of the problem. The girl uses the shampoo and lo behold! The flakes are gone and she is ready for her date! We may not have faced a similar problem, but most of us are prone to dandruff and it can be really irritating. Memsaab brings to you tips on how to take care of this problem..

Dandruff is the shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp and is not to be confused with a dry scalp. Dandruff is sometimes caused by frequent exposure to extreme heat and cold. It is normal for skin cells to die and flake off since a small amount of flaking is normal and common. Dandruff is a common scalp disorder affecting almost half of the population at the pre-pubertal age and of any sex and ethnicity. The severity of dandruff may fluctuate with season as it often worsens in winter. Since it can lead to social and self-esteem issues as well as causing physiological problems such as itching, redness of scalp, Dandruff treatment is recommended.

1. Apply Hot Oil – A therapeutic hot oil massage can help in nourishing your scalp and stimulates production of sebum. Apply warm coconut oil or a scientifically formulated hair tonic and apply by parting rows of hair. Shampoo after an hour or so, but it is preferable if you leave the oil overnight. Condition your hair after shampooing with a good quality conditioner. Weekly oil massage is recommended

2. Egg-Yoghurt pack – Apply a mixture of egg yolk and yoghurt. It not only nourishes the scalp but also helps in improving the oil balance. Leave the pack for about an hour or so and then rinse and shampoo.

3. De-stress – Stress is one of the leading causes of dandruff and the condition worsens leading to more stress. Try to de-stress yourself by indulging in some relaxing activities such as meditation, jogging, playing, listening to music, taking up a hobby etc.

4. Anti-Dandruff Shampoos – Nowadays, the market is flooded with Anti-Dandruff shampoos which promise freedom from dandruff after a certain number of washes. You can check with your dermatologist which shampoo would be best suited to you.
