The very gripping Bollywood heist drama ‘Special Chabbis’ has won critics all over and enjoyed good reviews from all the subject matter experts. What remained to be seen was whether the audiences would also echo the verdict. And as it happens, the audience has given a warm thumbs up to the very entertaining and superbly directed movie. Directed by Neeraj Pandey of ‘A Wednesday’ fame, ‘Special Chabbis’ opened to a lukewarm response on Friday with a 30% occupancy at the theatres.

But by Sunday, it was clear that the movie was a winner at the box office. The movie had collected approx 25 crores of Indian Rupees in its 3 day opening weekend and seems to be maintaining a steady pace. Which means that it is poised to become a hit! The movie which stars Akshay Kumar in the lead role ably supported by a cast of performers like Anupam Kher, Majoj Bajpayee, Jimmy Shergill and Divya Dutta is a heist drama based on the real life heist which rocked the city of Mumbai in March 1987.

Reports say that a man posing as a CBI intelligence officer ransacked a prominent jewellery store located in the heart of the diamond bazaar in Mumbai also known as Opera House. Without using any guns or violence, the man carried out the daredevil act by recruiting about twenty six odd people and made them carry out a mock raid at the store. He stole about Rs. 35 lakhs worth of jewellery and the strangest of things is that nobody ever heard of him ever since. Well, the movie based on this incident has definitely stolen the hearts of its audiences!
