Secrecy is the name of the game, it seems. At least director Mani Ratnam believes in the formula. His upcoming movie Ravan is shrouded in complete secrecy, thanks to explicit instructions to everyone associated with the project. All we know is that Mani is making this film with Aishwarya Rai & Abhishek Bachchan playing the lead role. After the stupendous success of Guru, it is no surprise that Mani wanted to cast the lovely couple in this project. But exactly what Mr & Mrs Bachchan are doing in “Ravan”, is something that’s driving everyone crazy with curiosity.
When Ravan was announced, it was made out to be based on the great Indian epic, Ramayana. The media reported that the Bachchan couple was to play Ram-Sita in the film. Later, inside reports denied this and we were informed that Abhishek was to play Ravan. Then there were some rumors about the story being shot from “Ravan’s” angle, and some even said that Sita would go off with Ravan in the end!
These rumors were credited by news of the supporting cast in the film.
We were told that Mani Ratnam had managed to assemble a highly interesting cast for Ravan with Tamil superstar Vikram in the role of Ram, Nikhil Dwivedi essaying the role of Laxman and Govinda being cast as Hanuman. Bhojpuri superstar Ravi Kishen will play the role of Vibhishan.
And now, friends, “inside reports” say that everything written above is false! The latest news on Mani Ratnam’s “Ravan” is that it is NOT based on “Ramayana”. The Bachchans are NOT playing Ram, Sita or Ravan. The film is NOT even a period film, as everyone expects.
Apparently, Ravan is NOT based on Ramayana. The Bachchans are NOT playing Lord Rama, Devi Sita or Ravan. “Inside Sources” report that “Ravan” is a modern story set in an urban setting. The similarity, if any, is in the characters of the film and the characters of the great epic. So, what are Govinda, Ravi Kishen and the others doing in this film? Your guess is as good as mine!
Whatever role he may be playing in “Ravan”, Abhishek Bachchan is working hard for it. He is looking so amazing! He has obviously been dieting and working on his body. With that thick mop and that flab gone from his head and body respectively, he looks so much younger and hotter. That’s another reason to watch out for “Ravan”. It might be the greatest hit of this year.
All the contradictory rumors amidst all the secrecy is obviously a ploy to keep the audience interested and curious. Can’t blame Mani for doing this. After all, it IS working…
