It is the Big V Day today and everywhere there are couples holding hands, getting mushy, gifting each other red stuff (yuck!), and there you are – the quintessential singleton!
Valentine’s Day is tough on singles…almost as tough as family weddings. With the media going in an overdrive of Cupid filled commercials and programs, a single person ends up feeling gloomier and lonelier than ever. As you sadly wonder if you are alone because you are not worthy enough, let Memsaab tell you why being alone is a blessing!
No Gifts – Don’t let your friends fool you into believing that Valentine’s Day gifts are of any use. The roses wilt, the candy you can buy yourself and the teddies are more of a nuisance really. These gifts are nothing more than a bunch of crap the next day. Aren’t you better off without all this sweet garbage? Don’t forget, being single also means you don’t have to BUY any gifts for your partner. Save that money, and spend it on yourself instead!
Be Yourself – Being single means you can be yourself. You don’t have to pretend that you enjoy watching cricket on tv. You don’t have to deny that you are attracted to John Abraham. You can hog all you want when you go out for dinner. In short, you don’t have to pretend to be someone else.
Conform To Expectations – Contrary to what you think, relationships require hard work. To keep your partner happy, you have to conform to certain expectations. The expectations could vary from your size to how you wear your hair to your choice of profession etc. Do you really think a relationship is worth giving someone such control over your life?
So as you see, being single is not the end of the world. But being single also does not mean that you cannot celebrate Valentine’s Day. Here’s a list of things that you can do to make the day special.
Valentine’s Day Party: Get togther all your single friends and host a party for singles. Not only is this a great stress buster for all singles, who knows if some of your friends may end up as couples after the party? The point is, everyone can have fun on this day.
People Who Love You: Valentine’s Day is about love, but nobody says it has to be about “romantic” love. Get together with people who love you and show them how much they mean to you. Buy nice flowers for your mom/grandma and do similar stuff for other people who matter in your life.
Spend The Night With Your Celebrity Crush: No naughtiness here! What we mean is rent a handful of DVD’s of your favorite Bollywood/Hollywood hunk and spend the night away watching him on TV. Do this for yourself, treat yourself to an eye candy marathon!
Spread The Cheer: Spend the day volunteering at an old age home. When you return home in the evening, you will feel an uncomparable joy in your heart. No number of teddies or roses or chocolates can make you experience the same feeling.
What we really mean is, “do whatever makes you happy”. Forget about being single and just enjoy the day.
