As the row over Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati spreads to UK, there is one insurance company in India that is set to face the music for Bhansali’s historical fantasy!
New India Assurance company had insured Padmavati production for 140cr. After the sets were attacked, the insurance company is facing claims of around 3 crore. The same company has also insured Padmavati’s box office collections for 80 crore. The makers can raise a claim against this insurance if the people are unable to access Padmavati in theatres. This could be due to any reason except banning by government. For example if theatres are attacked, people will avoid buying tickets. Similarly, if a disease breaks out and government shuts down theatres, makers can raise a claim for their losses.
It seems very likely that Padmavati release may be affected in some way by the threats surrounding it. It is very likely that New Indi aAssurance may have to pay much more than just the 3 crores that are already filed in claims for Padmavati production!
