#MeToo Program in Pakistan is a groundbreaking campaign with reference to sexual harassment and misconduct, which has many popular international names amongst which Pakistan’s favorite model and singer Meesha Shafi is included too.
Pakistani singer-actor Meesha Shafi has indicted Ali Zafar for sexually harassing her, saying the decision to share her #MeToo story was difficult but she felt it was important to break the culture of silence.
On the other hand, Zafar has repudiated all of Shafi’s allegations and said that he would address this “professionally and seriously”. “I intend to take this through the courts of law, rather than to lodge any allegations here, contesting personal vendettas on social media, and in turn disrespecting the movement (#MeToo),” he wrote on Twitter.
Meesha tweeted this Thursday stating, “Sharing this because I believe that by speaking out about my own experience of sexual harassment, I will break the culture of silence that permeates through our society. It is not easy to speak out, but it is harder to stay silent. My conscience will not allow it anymore #MeToo”. She further added, “I have been subjected, on more than one occasion, to sexual harassment of physical nature at the hands of a colleague from my industry: Ali Zafar.”
With the tweet, Meesha Shafi received awe-inspiring support on social media for speaking out against this culture of harassment. We are actually proud of your bravery Meesha and I am sure that your story will draw a lot of insights from other actors too.
