Popular Bollywood film maker Karan Johar is geared up for his third innings on the telly. We all enjoyed his first two TV attempts which were two seasons of his celebrity chat show Koffee With Karan. We loved his easy banter with his guests on the show, who were also his close friends in real life. But this time, KJo has something else up his sleeve.
Karan Johar is making his debut on the Reality TV network with Lift Kara De! LKD is a reality show based on the relationships between Bollywood stars and their fans. The show will cover 20 biggest superstars of India, in a period of 20 weeks. The purpose of the show is to hunt for the biggest fans of each of these superstars. Interesting?
Lift Kara De is being produced by Yash Raj Films’ television division called YRF TV. The television division is a brainchild of Aditya Chopra, the young scion of the Yashraj family. YRF TV has collaborated with Sony Television to produce and telecast many shows back to back on weekends. These include “Seven”, “Rishta.com”, “Power”, “LKD” etc. “We have a decade long relationship with YRF, we acquire all the YRF movies and when YRF decided to enter into TV production we became their obvious partner of choice,” says COO Sony Entertainment television, N P Singh.
When the whole country is swept by a wave of reality shows, it is not surprising that our film producers also want a piece of the pie. The wide reach and huge popularity of the small screen has made it a popular destination for most Bollywood production houses.
Coming to the show, the choice of Karan’s superstars is anyone’s guess. There’s no prize to guess who will be the first star to appear on Karan’s show. Yes, Shahrukh Khan, the Baadshah of Bollywood, quite obviously! When you see SRK and KJo together, Kajol can’t be much behind, Right? Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Sunny Deol, Dharmendra, Aamir Khan (if he agrees), Rani Mukherjee, Aishwarya Rai, Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, Shahid Kapoor are a few of the other stars whom you can expect to see on the show.
