The North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja Samiti (NBSDP) or the ‘Mukherjee Bari Pujo’ is among the most popular Durga Puja pandals in the city. Many members of the Mukerji clan, including Kajol, Tanishaa, Rani Mukerji, Ayan Mukerji and Debu Mukherjee were seen at the pandal this year. Keeping the pandemic in mind, this year, too, members followed the protocols and guidelines laid down by the authorities.

Talking to Bombay Times, Kajol said, “Unfortunately this year too Durga Puja was not celebrated with pomp and show as it was in 2019, because unprecedented times require unprecedented action. The festival has a lot of fond memories, it brings the family together. The preparation from outfits to bhog, everything about Durga Puja is special for me. However, keeping the safety was of paramount importance and NBSDP did what was best for the members and devotees.”
One of the founder members and the main organiser of the annual Puja, Debu Mukherjee tells Bombay Times, “This is the second year we did a virtual Durga Puja.
We maintained social distance and wore masks and did not let in a lot of people come into our pandal. It was members-only. Keeping everyone’s safety in mind we thought that was the best decision to make. Even the members were allotted a specific time when they could visit the pandal.”
Sharbani Mukherji who is an active member and always attends the Puja told Bombay Times that the team was extra careful this year too.
“Being in the COVID situation we are facing today we have to be very careful because there are children, senior citizens at home and loved ones so I think this is necessary that we have to follow the protocols. Definitely the Puja was not the way it used to be on a grand scale but what is more important is that the rituals are done and puja is done, all the vidhis we are followed. We are missing the devotees who have been coming since so many years from all over the world and India. Hopefully by next year we will come back with a bang. It is going to be our 75th year so we are planning a bigger celebration to bring in that and with Maa’s blessing, hopefully we will come out of this pandemic situation.”
