Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma found herself become a toast for memes after her cricketer husband Virat Kohli lost an IPL match and didn’t execute well. The actress got trolled on social media and giving air to the fire was the former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar’s snide remark involving Anushka. Soon after it, many Bollywood personalities came out in support of the actress. Kangana Ranaut also stood up in support of Anushka but in the same tweet, she also accused her of selective feminism.
Kangana Ranaut tweeted, “#Anushka remained quiet when I was threatened and called Haramkhor but today the same misogyny coming to bite her, I condemn the fact that she was dragged in to cricket by #SunilGavaskar but selective feminism is equally uncool.”
On Thursday, Sunil Gavaskar, while commenting on Virat Kohli’s batting, had made a reference to Anushka. The former cricketer said that Virat practiced only to Anushka’s bowling during the lockdown, referring to a viral video of them playing cricket on their terrace in May, and added that it would do nothing to improve his performance on the field. The remark was in bad taste and did not go down well with the RCB skipper’s fans, with some of them urging the BCCI to remove Gavaskar from the commentary panel.
Over the years, on quite a few instances, the Bollywood actor has been blamed for her husband’s shortcomings in the cricket field.
