All the news we expect from Cannes every year is the colour of aishwarya’s gown or of the fashion adventures of our other Bollywood ladies who made it to the big event. But this year, we have actual real news about a small film from India that has won rave reviews and has bagged not one, but two awards!
Neeraj Ghaywan’s directorial debut Masaan forced the normally picky and hard-to-please Cannes audience to stand up and give a 5 minute long standing ovation! This is rare at the Cannes and is something we should all be proud of. The film also won two awards: FIPRESCI, International Jury of Film Critics prize and Promising Future prize in the Un Certain Regard section.
The excited director took to Twitter to express his feelings.
“#MASAAN just won the FIPRESCI award for Un Certain Regard at @Festival_Cannes! This was long due for India,” Ghaywan posted on twitter.
“2nd award for India!! #MASAAN most promising newcomer! See @anuragkashyap72 what your mentorship has got me to.”
Congratulations to the team!
