The recent controversy surrounding AIB member Tanmay Bhatt has lead to a new debate. Do we take ourselves too seriously?

Comedian Tanmay Bhatt uploaded a Snapchat video where he did a little roast of Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar. As soon as the video was seen by people, there were rants against it. People question how can anyone make jokes about the National Treasure Lata Mangeshkar or the God of Cricket Sachin Tendulkar. It sounds really crazy if you think about it. Lata Mangeshkar or Sachin Tendulkar are being given a special status that protects them from jokes and ridicule, why?

Should anyone be put on such a pedastal that they are given special protection against ridicule? If we can ridicule our PM a few times every day, does this not seem too trivial?

More importantly, as a nation we take ourselves too seriously. When will we stop and give freedom of expression to our creative people?
