Manasa Varanasi was crowned Miss India World 2020 on February 10, 2021. Manika Sheokand became Miss Grand India 2020 and Manya Singh went on to become Miss India 2020 Runner-up.
While Manasa gained all the limelight in the media for winning the title and rightly so, the runner-up, Manya Singh’s inspirational story of childhood skirmish and doing odd jobs to complete her studies and pursuing her dreams to land the runner-up position in the prestigious beauty pageant, took the internet by storm.
Manya Singh, Miss India 2020 runner-up, believes she hasn’t just won a crown but earned herself a halo. Manya Omprakash Singh, who was born in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh- the land chosen by the Gods for their incarnation, is the daughter of an autorickshaw driver. Manya has not had an easy childhood and she revealed about it in an Instagram post that featured pictures of her family. She confined a long inspirational note with the images, talking about her mother pawning her jewelry to let Manya complete her studies, her running away from home and doing various jobs just to survive, among other things.
Singh, who speaks fluently in English but switches to Hindi if she has to elaborate something, said she keeps reexamining moments when her family couldn’t afford even the most basic necessities like education. Singh even spoke about her tough road to success during the competition. In an Instagram post, she described how she spent “numerous nights without food and sleep” to achieve her dream.
According to a report from a media house, Manya Singh intends to help her family with the prize money and wishes to continue to model. She has previously done several modelling assignments which included walking at ramp shows.
