India is observing the worst phase of the Covid-19 pandemic, as the country is reporting over three lakh cases every day. Many countries, including Germany, Italy, Iran, Singapore and Bangladesh, have restricted entry of travelers from India with direct effect given the Covid situation. The Maldives is the latest on the list.
On Monday, the Ministry of Tourism, Maldives avowed that hotels and resorts located at remote islands of the country will not welcome Indian tourists though they can travel to anywhere in the mainland.
“Maldives resorts and live boards continue welcoming tourists from all countries, including tourists traveling from India. Hotels and guest houses in inhabited islands continue welcoming all tourists except those traveling from India,” the tweet read.
Since the declaration the social media is having a ball prodding fun at Bollywood who has been assembling to the island country pretty much since the pandemic-induced lockdown ended in India last year. Among the host of celebs who have vacationed in the Maldives since the pandemic started are Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Tiger Shroff, Disha Patani, Sara Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Karan Singh Grover, and the list goes on and on.
So, once the new travel instruction came from the government of the Maldives, Twitter exulted and we witnessed a meme fest.
