Have you ever bought Hummus from the store? It is not a very common item on the shelves of our stores, but it is likely that you have tasted or at least heard of Hummus.

What and Why?

Hummus is a dip from the Midde east that is not only very yummy, but also very nutritious. It is rich in protein, healthy fats and other nutrients from the flavourings you choose. The best thing about Hummus is that you can enjoy salad or whole wheat crackers with this dip and manage your hunger pangs without consuming too many calories. When you use Hummus as a spread for your breakfast toast, it keeps you fuller for longer.


Here is how Hummus is prepared traditionally.

Ingredients: Chickpeas, extra virgin olive oil, garlic, tahini sauce, lemon juice

Method: Soak and boil the chickpeas. Combine all the ingredients and blend in a food processor till soft and creamy.

Serve as a dip for carrots, celery sticks or crackers. You can also serve it as a spread for toast.
