Easy Donuts Recipe
Ingredients for the Dough: 1 cup whole milk, 2 1/4 tsp. active dry yeast, 4 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 6 tbsp. melted butter, 2 large eggs, 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract and oil, for frying.
Start by blooming the yeast. In a bowl, add a tsp of sugar to warm milk. Sprinkle the yeast on top. Within 5 minutes you will see the yeast rise to a foam. It is now time to mix in the remaining ingredients. Form a soft dough by kneading all the ingredients together.
Cover with a damp cloth and leave in a warm place to rise. You should see the dough risen with an hour. If you press your thumb into the dough, the depression left by your thumb will soon rise back. This means the dough is ready to be divided. Using 2 sizes of cookie cutters, cut out the donuts and place on a tray with sufficient gap between them. Place the tray in a warm environment and allow the donuts to rise. It will take 30-40 minutes before the donuts are ready to be fried.
Now heat the oil in a kadhai and fry the donuts quickly. The temperature should be just right. If the oil is too hot, the donuts will brown very quickly and may burn. If it is not hot enough, the donuts will not cook properly inside.
Time to glaze! Make the glaze by mixing 1/2 cup milk, 2 cup sugar and 1/2 tsp vanilla extract. Dip your donuts in the glaze while they are hot. Enjoy your fresh home made donuts while they are still warm!
