The British government has approved use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in the country and the vaccine will be available as early as next week! Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has cleared the use of this vaccine after ascertaining that it meets their strict safety and effectiveness standards. This decision makes UK the first Western country to administer a COVID-19 vaccine to its residents, ahead of USA and the rest of Europe.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said in a radio interview that the country could be done with the disease by as early as next spring. He said, "We can see the way out, and we can see that by the spring we are going to be through this." He also added that they are expecting 800,000 doses of the vaccine to be delivered from Belgium. Front line workers, care home residents, staff, the elderly and the clinically vulnerable will be given a priority in administration of the vaccine.
