Day time napping has often been the subject of debate. Some people swear by the benefits of it and other people believe it to be unhealthy and unnecessary. Many studies have been carried out to find out the truth about day time napping. But the results vary from study to study.
Scientists from Guangzhou University in China reviewed 20 different studies conducted on 313,000 people. The findings of this review suggest that sleeping for over an hour in the day can increase the risk of premature death by 30% and it also results in a 34% higher risk of developing heart disease.
What this means is that if you enjoy your day time naps, it is best to keep your nap duration under one hour. Longer day time naps are not only linked with heart disease risk and higher risk of premature death, they also disturb your sleep ptterns. If you take long day time naps, it is inevitable that you will find it hard to sleep at night. This will slowly lead to a cycle of insomnia and more sleeping during the day to catch up on your zzzzz.
