Fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee on Friday got trolled after he displayed a Women's Day special 'celebrate confidence' message.
To mark International Women's Day 2019, Sabyasachi took to social media to send out a wish for women across the country. Scrapping his recurrent turncoats, the designer united with a plus size model, who wore attire from his collection, to send out a message of self-confidence. He shared two photographs and alongside it, a graphic that read, "There is nothing more beautiful than self-confidence."
Soon after he posted the Women's Day special post to 'celebrate confidence', the social media got divided in its response. Some social media users praised Sabyasachi for his message and extolled him for “promoting inclusivity”. But the post didn't go down too well with many of the users.
Many of the social media users were of the view that the designer himself armored quite a few stereotypes with his latest posts. Some of them instructed Sabyasachi, signifying that it'd be nice if he'd "promote curvy women all year round" and not just on a particular day. Many people found it in bad taste that the designer discoursed self-confidence with the said photos suggesting "only average/plus size models need confidence".
In short, the social media users commended him to not just make posts like these an exception but should find a regular place in his campaigns. Well, it is important that we respect and admire women of all size and creed.
