What is Moon Milk? It is common in India to drink a glass of warm milk before going to bed. We have known for ages that a glass of warm milk helps us in sleeping better. But the West is just now waking up to our Ayurvedic methods. Moon milk is the name given by the West to this night time drink we have been consuming for ages.
It is common inthe West (and becoming common in India too) to drink an alcoholic drink before bed if one can't sleep. The nightly drinks are called nightcaps. People in the West are now talking about warm milk as a natural nightcap that helps in inducing sleep naturally, without alcohol. It is not just a food trend, but also a health trend.
How to Make Moon Milk
You just heat regular milk (cow's milk is better) with your choice of ingredients from an expansive list. You could use:
Turmeric, Cinnamon, Cardamom, Ashwagandha, Nutmeg, Ginger, Black Pepper and Chamomile extract. All these ingredients have various health benefits like improving immunity, inducing sleep etc. Add honey to the milk after it has been boiled with these spices and herbs.
If you are lactose intolerant, you can also use nut milks (like almond milk) or coconut milk or hemp milk as the base for your moon milk.
Adding colourful rose petals or tart cherries on top is also very in.
