India lost one of the greatest actors of all time. Shashi Kapoor who was a veteran actor passed away on December 4th this year. Shashi Kapoor was a quintessence of romance and charm who persuaded the top leading ladies of the '70s and '80s on the silver screen and fascinated millions of fans, died today. He was 79.
Shashi Kapoor was one of the most versatile celebrity who was an actor first and a film star later. Shashi Kapoor was the youngest son of thespian actor Prithviraj Kapoor and the youngest brother of Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor. Even though he died today, his legacy will live in his numerous movies.
The actor-producer took his last breath at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. Shashi Kapoor worked in more than 150 films in his career but he will always be remembered for sharing screen space with Amitabh Bachchan in movies like Deewar, Trishul and others. He was magnetic and even when Amitabh Bachchan was at the height of his stardom Shashi Kapoor’s aura was not lessened.
He was the first Bollywood and Hindi Film actor to go global and work in Hollywood and British films. However, Shashi Kapoor is forever commemorated in the iconic dialogue from the movie Deewar where he tells an irate and angry Amitabh Bachchan who is busy counting his materialistic accomplishments, “Mere Paas Maa Hai”.
The star has left a big stardom to follow. We all wish that his soul rests in peace.
