People from all over India were glued to their TV screens tonight. Millions of eyes watched every shot, followed every point, waiting for that elusive gold. PV Sindhu may have lost the final match to Carolina Marin of Spain, but she has won millions of hearts. Sindhu played a great game and is our hero, an inspiration to all.
Sindhu has become the very first Indian woman to bring a silver medal home from the famed Olympics games. Interestingly, this year the only two medals have been won by our daughters. This brings to focus the lost opportunities. How many medals did India lose when we killed our female foetuses, when we killed female infants? How many great sportspersons failed to shine when we put our daughters to homely chores, sending o ur sons out to play? Indeed, this is something we should all think about when we think negatively about our sportspeople. Kudos to the families of our atheles who have supported them and given them opportunities to shine. May there be many more Sindhus, Sakshis and Dipas in our future! Go girls, you rock!
