The King of pop music Michael Jackson died in LA yesterday. Though the exact cause of death is yet unknown, it is speculated that the entertainer died of a cardiac arrest.
Michael Jackson was the 7th of 9 children born to Joseph and Katherine in Chicago, Illinois. he debuted on the professional music scene at the age of 11 as a member of The Jackson 5 and began a solo career in 1971 while still a member of the group. It was during his early years, that Michael Jackson was subjected to physical and emotional abuse by his father. This abuse had life lasting effects on him and he continued to have nightmares as an after effect.
Michael Jackson was called the "King of Pop" after the huge success of his songs and albums. His 1982 Thriller is the world's best-selling record of all time selling over 106 million records and four other solo studio albums are also among the world's best-selling records: Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991) and HIStory (1995).
Michael made a lot of money throughout his life, and he gave away a lot in charity. His awards include multiple Guinness World Records (8 in 2006 alone), 13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles in his solo career—more than any other male artist in the Hot 100 era—and the sale of over 750 million records worldwide, making him the world's best selling male solo pop artist.
Michael Jackson was considered a weirdo by many due to his strange appearance and things like adopting a pet Chimp. Multiple Rhinoplasty surgeries, coupled with skin diseases and burns while shooting a Pepsi commercial, gave Michael a strange appearance. Rumors had it that Michael lost a lot of weight to keep his body fit for dancing. There were reports of Anorexia also.
There were so many strange rumors about him and his life, that Michael once said, “Why not just tell people I'm an alien from Mars. Tell them I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight. They'll believe anything you say, because you're a reporter. But if I, Michael Jackson, were to say, 'I'm an alien from Mars and I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight,' people would say, 'Oh, man, that Michael Jackson is nuts. He's cracked up. You can't believe a damn word that comes out of his mouth.'”
Though Michael faced a lot of critisim for his way of life, and even faced charges of child abuse, he will always be remembered as the “King of Pop”, and will continue to inspire millions of people worldwide.
