Without wasting time in beating around the bush, let us just get straight to the point. Kareena Kapoor’s nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar has written a book on weight loss with the aid of proper diet. Rujuta says that there are a few Principles of “Eating Right”, which allow you to lose weight without starving yourself. What are these principles?

Rujuta’s 4 Principles of Eating Right

1. Never Wake Up To Tea/Coffee: In a country where people are used to a cup of “garam chai” as soon as they wake up, this may sound surprising. Rujuta says that stimulants like tea/coffee or cigarettes jolt the system out of restful slumber and make the body feel kicked/stressed. While we choose to call it being awake, it is not really good for the body.

Rujuta advocates eating “real” food within 15-20 minutes of waking up. It is best to start your day with a fruit, eaten within 15 minutes of waking up. After an hour, follow it up with your breakfast. Real food means “poha, upma, dosa, idli, paratha, roti, cereal” or anything else that is fiber rich and nutritious. Now it is OK to have a cup of your favorite brew.

2. Eat Every 2 Hours: Surprised again? We already told you, there’s no starving in this diet! Don’t get Rujuta wrong. She does not intend to make you balloon up with 8-10 full meals. Eating every two hours means that you are never hungry. Frequent meals make sure that you never binge. In fact, as soon as you start following the 2nd Principle, you will find your portion size decreasing drastically. Never being hungry tells your body that it does not need to store fat.

3. Eat According To Activity Level: Rujuta suggests that you vary your food intake according to your activity levels. So eat more when you are more active, and vice versa. Remember, varying intake does not mean changing the number of meals. It just means that you increase or decrease your meal size.

4. Eat The Last Meal At Least 2 Hours Prior To Sleeping: Rujuta says that the body needs more calories and nutrients in the first half of the day. In the second half, our need for food decreases progressively, and so does the ability to digest. It is best to eat a wholesome meal around 6 -7 PM. So you will eat light at dinner time. Also, it is important to eat the last meal of the day at least 2 hours before you go to bed.

Rujuta says that proper sleep is also important, besides the diet regulation. She says that if your follow these principles of proper eating, and work out at least 3 times a week, you will be able to lose weight.
