If you think it is too early for you to plan for your retirement think again! Old age is the longest and more often than not, the most painful period (both physically and mentally) of our lives.

Before you retire, you need to get your finances in order. You need to make sure that you can afford your old-age after retirement (which comes with an increasing medical bill and a dozen other reasons for dependency) and also be aware of any adjustments that need to be made to your lifestyle.

To start with, figure out your monetary needs. Before you retire, you want to estimate how much money you need to maintain your standard of living.

Estimate your benefits. Figure out how much your pension benefits are worth.

Beef up your savings. To prepare for retirement, you should put away as much money as you can into a savings plan. This money should not be touched until you retire.

Work together, with your husband to figure out how much money you will each receive once you both reach retirement age.

Remember, once you start earning a respectable income, you need to start contributing to your retirement savings as early in your career as possible to build up the greatest amount of retirement funds. Of course, till you are fit, you can take up post retirement jobs but you still need to save from now!
