You should know the limits of your body!

So you are reducing?? Thats Great But do you know that if you are pushing your body beyond its limits and overdoing your schedule, it can be seriously injurious to your health. You should know the limits of your body and stop when you must.

Even as urban India wakes up to the horrors of lifestyle-linked disorders- like obesity, hypertension and diabetes - to embrace physical exercise, doctors and fitness experts feel that exercisers need to be cautious about how one conducts ones fitness regimen. While exercise can definitely reduce weight and helps us to remain fit and keeps us away from many ailments still we should know how much exercise we can digest, what are the injuries that can occur during exercise and what to do about these injuries.

There are many examples where excess of exercise has caused harm. Here is one of those blazing example. Mr. Akash Srivastav, who works in a KPO company is the flamboyant office stud. He wakes up at 5 a.m in the morning every day. His day starts with rigorous work outs in his gym equipment. Last week he exercised so hard that he had to be hospitalized for shin splint, an injury caused by high- impact exercise.

Exercise in the Right Way:
Exercise is beneficial for all age groups, even children, because there has been a trend in recent years for Indian kids to be sedentary and become victims of lifestyle- linked disorders. So exercising in childhood- and up to the mid 20s- builds up bone density, which can whittle down the risk of osteoporosis and fractures in later life. Most fitness experts advocate weight training as a great way to augment muscle strength. However, it should ideally be done in a gym under a trainers supervision. Even though most city gyms now have fixed equipment exercises must still protect against injuries.

Be Easy on the Intensity
The knee joint is most vulnerable to exercise injuries. Acute injuries of the knee joint cause considerable disability and time off from sports, office or even day-day activities. So if you hear a soft cracking sound in the knee while exercising, followed by instantaneous swelling or discoloration of the knee accompanied by agonizing pain, consult an osteopath immediately. A warm up is important before working out, especially for beginners, because it prepares the body for exercise by diverting blood flow to the muscles that will be used most during exercise. It also gives time for the heart rate to elevate gradually rather than suddenly, so that it can meet the increased need for oxygen and funnel it efficiently to the working muscles.

Make a stop against Injury:

Exercise no doubt can work miraculously for your body, but you also have to know when to stop. If you exercise more than your body can tolerate, you nay get a chronic or over-use injury. It is caused by over exercising or doing stuffs that your body cannot accept or tolerate. That is why it is important that we build up our exercise regime in a gradual manner and not rigorously.

Relax and stretch:

Stretching is important after a workout as well because the muscles are warm and pliable then. Muscles that are flexible are far les likely to be injured than tight ones. Also cooling down after a workout helps decelerate the heart rate gradually. That is why even in yogas they do a Sabasana which is the complete rest for 5 minutes after the yogas or exercises.

The best drink for exercisers is water. Consume 10-12 glasses of water everyday, stick to a healthy well- balanced meal plan, exercise prudently and youre on the highway to fitness.
